MUSIC & SONGWRITING
Singing and music have always been foundational parts of my creative life. From an early age, I trained as a pianist and a classical singer, performing solo and with choirs from the age of 8. What I loved most about music is its ability to transport and transform — through song, I could shift my emotional state and that of others. Through song, I could connect and be part of a community.
These days, I love to compose original songs and atmospheric music for performance — creating musics that drive and illustrate action, build dramatic tension and assist actors in accessing their complete emotional landscape through the transportive quality of embodied sound. I primarily work with the voice, experimenting with lush harmonies, vocal percussion and extended techniques to build sonic landscapes.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to create original music and underscoring for film and theatre, setting the texts of canonical playwrights like Lorca, Brecht and Shakespeare, as well as incredible contemporary artists like Ken Yoshikawa, Josie Seid, Emily Eisele and others. With my creative ensemble, Bedrock Theatre, I often compose and collaborate on original songs inspired by specific landscapes or elements of the environment.
The samples below are mostly demos — quick recordings used to launch a music learning process with casts in rehearsal. Often the song is reshaped and divised to fit the particular cast and needs of the theatrical moment. I am most at home singing and creating music with groups — reach out if you have a music collaboration in mind!
